With the upcoming Apple iPhone15’s worldwide release now imminent, a survey has shone a light into attitudes about one of its most-discussed new features.
According to online-based mobile device provider SellCell, when one thousand Android users were asked how the move by Apple to adopt the USB-C charging port for the upcoming new model might affect their future choice in purchasing a smartphone, a total of 63% replied that it could influence them in a positive manner towards choosing the iPhone15.
An additional 37% said they would do likewise because it would mean having a single, not to mention highly convenient, charging port for all their devices at once, and a clear plurality of 66% still thought they would make the upgrade to the iPhone15 when it’s released, regardless of concerns pertaining to its charging.
44% of those same Android owners questioned replied that the move to a standard port would surely tempt them to buy the new device, while another 35% stated that they were interested because the new iPhone port would simultaneously be compatible with charging for non-Apple devices.
The switch to a universal port across all Apple e-products is in direct response to a recent EU directive that stipulated all mobile device charging ports within the 27-nation continental alliance be compatible with each other, and Apple made a patently commercial decision, as is their prerogative, that rather than have different ports for different parts of the world market, they simply adopted the USB-C as a universal standard.
The current charging port for Apple smartphones, up to and including the recent iPhone14, has used the so-called ‘Lightning’ charger for the last decade, but in recent years, Apple has actually switched ports for their iPads and MacBooks to USB-C so, in real terms, it is simply the tech giants aligning all their electronic mobile products to one standard rather than a sudden shift to a whole new one from scratch.
The iPhone gets its official and much-anticipated launch in California at the Wanderlust event on September 12.
