Release is expected imminently.
It’s been over 2 years since Apple last refreshed their popular iMac, but if an insider report proves to be accurate, the tech giant may be about to do just that in the coming days or weeks.
Apple has already made a slew of announcements just in September about upcoming product lines so it’s certainly a surprise to many that they are about to do it again. According to a report in Bloomberg, Apple will unveil a refreshed version of the Silicon iMac.
According to Mark Gurman, the author of the scoop, the new iMac could be the first to feature the new Apple M3 chip, which makes sense from a manufacturing point of view as back orders for the iMac have caused delivery dates to increasingly be postponed. Orders for brand new iMacs shipped direct from Apple stores are now delayed for delivery until November and using the new M3 chip in a relatively low volume product line such as iMac means any potential problems with the manufacturing process thus shouldn’t cause any undue delays.
It needs noting, however, that it would certainly be out of character for Apple to ship a single iMac with a brand new chip and announce it solely via a press statement. In such previous scenarios, any suchlike new unveiling has usually come with an accompanying and slickly professional video that extols the virtues of the new release.
Another interesting, albeit unconfirmed, indication of an imminent release of the refreshed iMac is the delivery delays themselves, potentially indicating Apple scaling back on manufacturing of the current iMac model in anticipation of the new one taking its place.
This is, of course, mere speculation and although Gurman never states it in his report, the refreshed iMac would also give Apple an ample opportunity to upgrade their Magic Mouse, Keyboard, and Trackpad accessories to accommodate the USB-C port alongside the iPhone 15 series and AirPods.
All of this might not prove accurate and rather it might just be a more simple procedure by Apple of upgrading memory and/or storage configurations, but we’ll know soon enough so stay tuned…
