Convert from Sim to eSim with this hot new gizmo.
Google has finally released the hotly-anticipated eSim Transfer Tool for the Pixel 8 series, allowing smartphone users to transfer their physical Sim cards to a digitized eSim equivalent.
Google promised to streamline the process of transferring to eSim earlier this year, and now with the release to great fanfare of their new Pixel 8 smartphone series, the tech giant is as good as their word and the eSim tool has been activated.
Rival tech company Apple already eliminated the Sim card slot last year with their bestselling iPhone 14 series but none of their rivals have made that move as yet, although it is all but inevitable and the physical Sim slot’s days are evidently numbered. Before that happens, however, there is still a need to streamline the process, a move that Google has just made as mentioned above and others are sure to follow shortly.
The process of transferring to eSim has been widely criticized as being too convoluted and cumbersome, forcing users to unregister from their old device and go through the process of re-registering on the new device. With such a process required, it’s any wonder eSim has failed to take off with consumers and it’s hoped – certainly by Google themselves – that the new transfer tool making it easier to transfer will heighten renewed interest in it.
There is a possibility of some teething issues as there are reports that the transfer tool may not function properly on some devices or network operators, an issue Google states they are aware of and working to rectify.
Google may be seeking plaudits for their new eSim migration tool, however they have already been overtaken by rivals Samsung who recently introduced a transfer tool for their Galaxy series in September.
