Power up your computer with peace of mind.
The threat of losing power on your laptop – or even your phone – is always a present one, so using a Power Bank is a useful and advantageous thing to have, either on standby or using it more consistently.
But not every Power Bank is suitable for every laptop, so it’s important to know which ones are as to not damage your PC, whatever purpose you primarily use it for. As winter approaches, it’s a prudent move to ensure you have a suitable Power Bank applicable for your laptop and fully functional for the coming months ahead.
For this article, we will list 4 useful tips to ensure you have a Power Bank that’s right for you.
1. Compatibility
The first thing you need to consider is whether your laptop and Power Bank have the same connector type, such as USB-C. Another thing you need to consider is the power source, for not all countries use the same type.
Power consumption is also a factor. Your laptop should have its average consumption level printed on the body, with power usually measured in milliamp-hours or watts.
2. Compliance
USB-C has of late become the de facto standard for charging ports, and thus newly-manufactured Power Banks will have conformed to this new standard.
However, if you have an older laptop, you need to check and see if it conforms to USB-C. Some laptop models come with their own unique charging ports or slots.
The adaptor for the Power Bank is another thing to consider as some Power Banks come with different adaptors/connectors. So make sure your laptop and adaptor are compatible. Also, and this is important, ensure your Power Bank is fully charged before connecting to your laptop. If in doubt, plug it in and let it charge itself up for a time beforehand.
3. Charging
Always keep an eye on the power level of your Power Bank. The status lights will let you know the amount of charge remaining as well as when it’s fully charged. Once charging your laptop is complete, disconnect the Power Bank and store it in a place that is both safe and easily reachable.
4. Choice
As winter approaches, every Ukrainian is advised to have a Power Bank, if they haven’t already obtained one. If you haven’t yet, which Power Bank should you choose?
The standard Power Bank operates on 10,000 mAh, meaning you have additional energy to extend the battery life, as laptops usually operate at a minimum of 50 W.
The Power Bank will ensure your laptop battery remains charged so you can get on with your life as usual and work for longer without distraction or delay.
Larger and therefore heavier Power Banks do have a greatly increased charging capacity but make sure you strike a suitable balance between portability and power efficiency if you’re traveling.
