The electronics giant goes large in all senses!
Samsung have just upped the game for rivals and competitors with the unveiling of their new 8K LED television. The QN99OC boasts a whopping 98” screen, making it the largest 8K set to hit the market thus far.
Not just big in size but also in price as it will set you back $40,000 to purchase one, much more expensive than other 98” screens and FIVE times pricier than Samsung’s other similarly-sized QLED unit.
Obviously, the main selling point for this bad boy is the pin-sharp, super-high-definition 8K resolution, and is sure to be a hot subject of interest at the upcoming 2023 CEDIA Expo in Denver, Colorado, where all manner of tech for household use will be unveiled.
The QN99OC uses Samsung’s patented Neural Quantum Processor to upscale 4K images to 8K resolution using what they describe as “AI-based formulas” and also includes a depth enhancer to boost highlights in images with strong visual focus.
You also get an anti-glare screen, Ultra Viewing Angle (which allows for universal brightness of screen from whatever angle you’re watching from), 4 HDMI ports supporting a 4K 120 Hz output, and Gaming Hub for all avid gamers.
All those features are wrapped up in an all-metal, super-slim frame that also comes with a super-slim wall mount. Audio is cutting-edge too, with a surround 6.4.4 Dolby Atmos setup and even Cinema Object Tracking that enhances sound effects for movies.
However impressive Samsung’s new screen may be, there’s little doubt though that it will face a much tougher market. 8K screens have yet to catch on in public interest, mainly because there is precious little content out there produced in such high-resolution, and also because people seem perfectly happy at present with 4K and the vibrant images it produces.
Coupled with the $40,000 price tag, it remains to be seen just how well the QN99OC will perform when it hits the marketplace, but Samsung seem confident that 8K will eventually penetrate the market as they’ve been releasing new 8K sets year on year now.
Nonetheless, it is an impressive new set and one that will give maximum viewing pleasure to anyone who views it. Recommended.
